Flight means to fly like a bird in the infinite blue sky. Flight has fascinated mankind for centuries and numerous flying machines have been designed and countless unsuccessful attempts were made to fly like a bird. In Hindu mythological books the word ‘vimana’ is mention which is the earliest known flying machine to us. Vimana is a Sanskrit word meaning is flying chariots.
Some events related to
conquest of blue sky-
1.
The
first successful flight was made in balloon in 1783 by the French Montgolfier brothers,
they flew over Paris.
2. The next major advance was the
development of gliders, notably by the Englishman Sir George Cayley, who in 1845
designed the first glider to make a sustained flight.
3.
In 1903, the American Wright brothers Orville and Wilbur
Wright made the first powered flight in their plane, four Cylinder,
Petrol - driven engine.
4.
Aircraft design advanced rapidly and in
1909 the Frenchman Louis Bleriot made his pioneering flight across the
English Channel.
5.
Wiley Post America aviator to fly solo
around the world in 1933.
During world wars the
aviation technology developed in a rapid way. Enola Gay is the most iconic aircraft
which changed the history of mankind and direction of world war-ll. Enola Gay
was a Boeing B-29 bombing aircraft which used for bombing nuclear bombs in
Japan in august 1945. Plane was named after pilot’s Colonel Paul Tibbets mother.
“One small step for men, one giant leap for mankind”
the famous quote of the first moonwalker. The Apollo- 11 mission was the
pioneer of space travel mission.
Hundred leagues
humanity travelled in the sky/space and hundred leagues humanity will be going
to travel. So I conclude that my title hundred leagues represent the continuous development of
mankind regarding flying and space research.
