Jatinga, a ‘Bermuda
triangle’ for birds from many years. Jatinga is a small tribal village in Assam,
India. Coordinates are 25.1149* N 92.9437 * E. After the
monsoons the village turns into a horrific site. A unique phenomenon in the
area has drawn attention over the years. This has been great mystery and the
subject of research for years. It has caught the attention of scientist and
ornithologists across the world. This is a strange behavior of the migratory
birds. It generally takes place during the month of September to November.
People also claim it happens mostly on moonless and foggy dark nights between
those weeks. Hundreds of dead birds just drop out of the sky towards light
source. This phenomenon is not confirmed for a single species. The villagers
hang lamp lights on the poles which attracts birds. Many claim the migratory
birds hover low. However Ornithologists suspect this is some mysterious alchemy of the
earth and sky.
